The High Country is truly a “pet friendly” place for you and your furry friend. Get away from the hustle and bustle of city traffic and take your dog for a walk on our many greenway, National Park Service, and North Carolina Park Service Trails. Nearly all of them allow dogs.
Many of our hotels, motels and rental cabin services are pet friendly as well, allowing visitors to bring their animals with them.
If your pet should suddenly get sick or hurt during your visit, the High Country has dozens of veterinarians at places such as the Animal Emergency and Pet Care Clinic of the High Country in Boone, the Animal Hospital of Boone, the Animal Medical Center of Boone, Appalachian New River Veterinary Associates in Boone, Ashe Animal Clinic in Jefferson, Avery Animal Hospital in Newland, High Country Animal Clinic in Banner Elk, Linville Animal Hospital, Whispering Waters Animal Care in Boone and the Watauga Veterinary Hospital in Boone.
Should you and your family decide to take a side trip for a few days and have to leave Fido or Mittens in the High Country, you can count on our kennels for top-notch animal care. They include A Bark Above Pet Sitting in western Watauga County, Mountain Vista Boarding Kennel in Banner Elk, Pawprint Grooming in Jefferson, the Pet Prairie in Sugar Grove, and at most veterinary clinics.
If you are looking to add to your menagerie, Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties all have wonderful Humane Societies where you can meet your new best friend.
