Music at Milepost 213
Blue Ridge Music Center Offers Summer Concert Series
By Jeff Eason
The unofficial heart of the Blue Ridge Parkway is that beautiful mountain region near
the North Carolina-Virginia border. There you’ll find the Carolina towns of Sparta and
Low Gap and the Virginia towns of Grayson Highlands and Galax.
That’s also where you’ll find the Blue Ridge Music Center, located at Milepost 213
of the Parkway, just outside the “city” of Galax. For the past several years, the center
has been home to some of the most exciting mountain music concerts in the area. The
facility features a state-of-the-art stage surrounded by a spacious outdoor seating
area. The center also features a museum celebrating the history and music of the mountains
of North Carolina and Virginia. The permanent exhibit of the museum traces the history
of banjo and fiddle music from its roots in Europe and Africa to its present day status
in Appalachian roots music.
All concerts are “rain or shine.” The open public jams will take place in the Plaza.
